Formed at the morning of the progressive rock geological earned run average in 1969, Gentle Giant seemed collected for a clip in the mid-'70s to fall apart kO'd of its cult-band status, just in some way ne'er made the jump. Somewhat closer in heart to Yes and King Crimson than to Emerson, Lake & Palmer or the Nice, their unparalleled level-headed melded hard joust and greek music, with an well-nigh mediaeval semivowel slope to singing.

Docile Giant was born out of the ruins of Simon Dupree & the Big Sound, an R&B-based getup lED by brothers Derek, Ray, and Phil Shulman. After switching to psychedelia in 1967 and grading their only major impinge on that year with "Kites," as Gentle Giant the radical abandoned both the R&B and psychedelic orientations of the former banding; Derek sang and played guitar and basso, Ray sang and played bass and fiddle, and Phil handled the saxophone, augmented by Kerry Minnear on keyboards, and Gary Green on guitar. Their original lineup as well featured Martin Smith on drums, but they went through several percussionists in the first three long time of their cosmos.

In 1970, Gentle Giant signed to the Vertigo mark, and their self-titled commencement album -- a shockingly daring work intermixture hard rock and full electric playing with classical elements -- came out later that twelvemonth. Their bit exploit, 1971's Getting the Taste, was slightly more than approachable and their third gear, Three Friends, featuring Malcolm Mortimore on drums, was their low gear record to make released in the U.S. (on Columbia). Their fourth record album, 1973's Devilfish, looked poised for a breakthrough; it seemed as though they had establish the mix in of hard rock and classical sounds that the critics and the world could admit, and they in the end had a permanent drummer in the person of John Weathers, an ex-member of the Graham Bond Organisation.

In 1974, however, Gentle Giant began advent apart. Phil Shulman distinct to give up music after the Devilfish turn, and became a teacher. Then the group recorded the album In a Glass House, their hardest-rocking record still, which Columbia's U.S. sleeve spurned as as well uncommercial. The biennial crack in their American going schedule injure their momentum, and they weren't heard from over again until the Capitol going of The Power and the Glory in 1975.

Docile Giant released Free Hand, their virtually commercial-grade album, in 1976, but then followed it up with the jarringly experimental Question. After the 1978 double-album Playacting the Fool, the group went through a seeming change of spirit and issued a series of albums aimed at mainstream audiences, regular approaching disco, merely by the end of the 1970s their popularity was in free fall. Minnear, world Health Organization had been playing an evermore primal role since the mid-'70s, had already left the grouping when Gentle Giant called it quits in 1980. Ray Shulman later became a producer and had considerable success in England working with bands like the Sundays and the Sugarcubes, spell Derek Shulman became a New York-based record company executive director.

Joint Symptoms More Likely For Some Breast Cancer Patients

An clause published in The Lancet Oncology reports
that postmenopausal women with breast crab who are on endocrine
treatment are likely to experience arthralgia and arthritis
(joint symptoms) if they previously have used endocrine replacement
therapy (HRT), standard a hormone-receptor positive tumour diagnosis,
undergone chemotherapy, received treatment with anastrozole versus
tamoxifen, or been weighty. Dr Ivana Sestak and Dr Jack Cuzick (Cancer
Research UK, London, UK) and colleagues hash out their results in a
retrospective exploratory analysis of patients enrolled in the Arimidex
[anastrozole] Tamoxifen Alone or in Combination trial (ATAC).

In the ATAC trial, postmenopausal women with breast cancer were
every which way assigned to anastrozole (an aromatase inhibitor) or tamoxifen.
Sestak and colleagues set extinct to determine the importance of a range of
risk factors for joint symptoms and whether the importance of these
risk of exposure factors changed according to how these women were treated. The
study sample consisted of 5,433 women who reported no joint symptoms at
the beginning of the ATAC trial.

The researchers institute that articulatio symptoms were reported by 777 of 1937
women (41.1%) who previously had used HRT and 1001 of 3496 women
(28.6%) who had not secondhand HRT. In addition:
Joint symptoms were reported by 1556 of 4596 (33.9%) with
hormone-receptor-positive tumors and in 124 of 448 (27.7%) with
hormone-receptor-negative tumors.
Joint symptoms were reported by 461 of 1176 (39.2%) world Health Organization
received late chemotherapy and in 1317 of 4257 (30.9%) who ingest not.

Obesity as measured by body-mass indicator (BMI) likewise correlated positively
with the onset of joint symptoms. About 37.2% with BMI greater than 30
kg/m, 31.3% with BMI 'tween 25 and 30 kg/m, and 31.0% with
BMI <25 kg/m reported symptoms. The researchers also noticed a
difference depending on which treatment a woman received. The
percentage reporting joint symptoms in the anastrozole was 35.2%
compared to 30.3% in the tamoxifen group.

Endocrine treatment reduces the concentration of estrogen in the
body, and estrogen deficiency has been linked to joint
symptoms in several different settings. Since the effects of the risk
factors can accumulate, they need to be taken into account when
aromatase inhibitors are being considered for women. "Awareness of risk
factors for joint symptoms will help both clinicians and patients to
anticipate and manage these symptoms and ensure optimum adherence to
endocrine treatment," conclude the authors.

Johnny Vegas - Vegas Stars In Massive New Bbc Three Comedy

Johnny Vegas is to star in a new BBC Three comedy called Massive, that sees the launch of Manchester's hottest new record label – Shady Records.

The cast also includes Ralf Little of Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps and The Royle Family fame and Carl Rice from Scallywagga.

Massive follows Danny and Shay as they call time on their dreary temping jobs to follow their dream and bring their music obsession to the masses.

Danny's from Didsbury (posh), Shay is from Gorton (not so posh) and they both work for the council. Bored with their lives, they're brought together by their love of music.

The series follows their attempts to get the label up and running – signing bands, losing them again, always on the lookout for the next big thing.

En route the Beeb promises they will pluck a girl band from the obscurity of Superb'uns cake shop, get sued by Eminem, get lost in the Pennines – where they find the new Oasis – and get involved in a scam involving a Macedonian prostitute called Zora who has a revolutionary way of making shish kebabs...

Massive has been written by Damian Lanigan whose music credentials go back to 1984 when his band The Twentieth Legion played the Hacienda.

Reality TV rejects set for Eurovision?

A number of former reality television stars are set to compete for the chance to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Among those vying for the chance to perform at the event in Belgrade in May are former 'X Factor' star Andy Abraham, 'Any Dream Will Do' star Rob McVeigh and 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?' contestant Simona Armstrong.
They will face competition from former 'EastEnders' star Michelle Gayle, pop duo Loveshy (made up of contestants from 'Popstars: The Rivals') and girl group The Revelations.
The six acts will take part in the 'Eurovision - Your Decision' programme next month, with the winner becoming the UK's official entry for the Eurovision.
BBC's Eurovision host Terry Wogan said: "A turkey is one of the contenders for this year's Irish entry. For the past few years, we've been picking a turkey for the UK.
"Let's hope that the British public will make the right decision this year and give the UK's entry a fighting chance against the Eastern Bloc in Belgrade in May."
